How To Apply - New Applicants to Degree Studies

The following information and processes are for applicants wishing to pursue a degree at the University of Waterloo.

Official transcripts must be sent directly from the institutions attended to the Registrar's Office. Please allow 4-6 weeks for their delivery.

The Application Cost:

There is a non-refundable processing fee of $85.00 CAD for each application. There may also be additional costs for students applying from outside of Canada and for transcripts that are ordered at the time of application. Payment can be made by VISA, MasterCard, Internet or telephone banking (Canadian banks only), cheque, or money order. Your application will not be forwarded to the University of Waterloo until all required fees have been received, therefore paying by cheque or money order will delay receipt of your application at the University of Waterloo.

The Application Process:

Before completing the Online Application, please review the following:

  1. You must apply and access the online application using the link below. All applications are processed through the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC). The OUAC is responsible for collecting application information as well as the non-refundable processing fee. You will receive a confirmation email from the OUAC immediately after applying. Subsequently your application will be sent to the University of Waterloo, providing full payment has been received. You cannot access the online Degree Program Application by going directly to the OUAC website.

  2. Official transcripts from most universities and colleges in Ontario can be ordered while completing your Online Application. You will need to arrange for all other official transcripts* to be sent to the address below. Please ensure that your OUAC number is attached to all information being sent to the Registrar's Office.

  3. Within two weeks of submitting your Online Application and payment, you will receive your UW Student Identification Number in a confirmation email message from the University of Waterloo. This will include information about completing your Admission Information Form (AIF). The AIF is your chance to tell us more about yourself and what you have done beyond the classroom. You should also use the AIF to explain any special circumstances that may have affected your grades and/or which you would like taken into consideration during the admissions process.

  4. You are now ready to complete (online) the Degree Program Application.
