Cost and Financing

Fees

Please see the Finance website for tuition fees. The tuition fee schedule has two categories: one for Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents and one for international students.

It is important that you review the Finance (Student Accounts) website for complete details about fees including:

  • undergraduate fee schedule
  • undergraduate incidental fees
  • tuition (note: payment of your fees completes your registration in the courses you have chosen each term)
  • payment due dates/late fees (note: it is your responsibility to pay your fees within the deadlines listed on the Finance website. The University does not mail fee bills to students - you must check Waterloo's student information system, Quest, or contact the Finance Office (email or call 519-888-4567, ext. 38466) for complete details of your account balance. To learn how to view your student account online, see the How do I view my account? page within Quest's help instructions. After enrolling in a course, please allow 3-5 business days for your account to be updated.

Notes Regarding Fees

  1. In addition to the fees for the admission application, tuition,and course materials, students are responsible for any textbook/course note purchases (see the Waterloo Bookstore) and other miscellaneous expenses.

  2. The University’s Board of Governors reserves the right to change the published schedule of fees without notice. If a change is announced, the University will make every effort to notify students; however, the University will not be responsible for notification.

  3. Tuition increases apply to everyone taking courses in the term in which the new fee takes effect. The date you submit your application/registration has no bearing on the fees charged.

  4. All Canadian senior citizens who register for credit courses receive a bursary equivalent to the tuition fee (pending eligibility). To be eligible Canadian citizens must be 65 years of age by: November 1 for the Fall term; January 1 for the Winter term; May 1 for the Spring term. To claim this bursary, you must submit proof of age (e.g., photocopy of your birth certificate) along with a signed Promissory Note to the Finance Office, on or before the due dates specified on the Finance website. Seniors will be responsible for all other fees associated with their registration or course.

  5. Certain University services such as issuing official transcripts or Letters of Permission are also subject to change.

Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Awards

Need Financial Help?

These days a university education requires a substantial financial commitment. After reviewing your education related expenses, you may find that you need additional funds to pursue your education. If that is the case, you may be eligible for financial assistance. The Student Awards & Financial Aid office coordinates various programs for Waterloo students with financial needs. These include government and University of Waterloo financial aid programs - some of which are non-repayable. Bursaries

Canadian Senior Citizens Bursaries
All Canadian citizen students, 65 years of age and over, receive a bursary equivalent to the cost of tuition for degree credit courses. To be eligible for the bursary, students must have reached the age of 65 by the beginning of the term (i.e., September 1 for the fall term; January 1 for the winter term; May 1 for the spring term). To claim this bursary, you must submit proof of age (e.g., photocopy of birth certificate) along with a signed Promissory Note. See the Finance website for instructions, including due dates. Seniors will be responsible for all other fees associated with their course or registration.

 

Scholarships and Awards

Student Awards & Financial Aid administers numerous undergraduate scholarships and awards. These awards are based on academic achievement and may include other selection criteria such as extracurricular involvement, leadership, etc. Many are awarded automatically based on year-end marks or on marks in a particular course or area. Others require the student to complete an application form.
